Host a Student

Enthusiastic students from Europe, Korea, China, Japan, South America, Australia and New Zealand are eager to experience life in Canada. Offering a place in your family helps a dream come true.

Many of our host families host over and over again because they find that the students are enjoyable, exceptional young people. Host families also enjoy the connections that develop with the students’ families overseas.

Students who come to Canada have been carefully screened and are recommended by their teachers and home schools. They are genuinely interested in Canada and like to share their culture and language with their host families. The students agree to firm but fair behavioural expectations. They are expected to fit in with their host family's way of life and participate in household responsibilities along with others in your family.

Host parents provide a caring and safe environment, meals and a place to sleep and study. An area representative and administrative staff support the student and host family, answer questions and help iron out adjustments.

Host parents are volunteers, but receive a modest honorarium to offset the minor additional costs of hosting. Students come with their own spending money and are financially responsible for their own personal needs such as clothing and toiletries, extracurricular transportation, recreation and dining out.

Host families may choose to host for 2 weeks or 3, 5 or 10 months. Students arrive in Canada in late August or January in time for the beginning of the school year or semester.
